In 1949, when prominent Hollywood lawyer Everett Taylor travels to Riverside County to defend a woman charged with murdering her husband, he is convinced his career has hit a new high. Once he arrives and starts to work on the case, however, life becomes complicated, unpredictable, and dangerous.
Taylor is soon brought face to face with Mickey Cohen and his mob, all the while struggling to deal with his own dark past. As he attempts to discover the truth , his physical health and sanity begin to disintegrate. Crippled by polio at four years of age, he begins to suffer from heart disease, a recurrence of polio, and mental illness. Further complicating matters is his tumultuous relationship with his family, including a resentful daughter left behind in St Louis when Taylor's first marriage ended in divorce, and a wife who struggles to understand his desperate desire for justice.
The story holds a mirror up to the game of evil and its devastating effects on innocent family members. Complex, twisted, violent, fractured--"Vengeance is Mine" is a page-turner in the tradition of John Grisham and Nelson DeMille.

"Fans of gangster fiction and films, and those delighting in the distinctive culture of post-World War ll Los Angeles, will be engrossed in this imaginative and thought-provoking first novel by Mr. Walker."
A.L. Wright
"This novel is written in three "books." Book 1 is the event that changed Everett Taylor's life. It's a good story by itself, but it's book three that makes this novel unforgettable. Book two is a lot of family history-- absolutely necessary to understanding book three. Don't skip it."
